In 1996, acclaimed independent journalist and bestselling author Amy Goodman began hosting a show on Pacifica Radio called Democracy Now! to cover the 1996 election. It was the only daily election news hour in public broadcasting, bringing voices and ideas not normally heard in the corporate media to the airwaves. The election ended, but demand for the show persisted, so Democracy Now! continued with its mission to give voice to those outside the mainstream. Now Goodman celebrates the 20th anniversary of this groundbreaking program with a new book titled Democracy Now!: Twenty Years Covering the Movements Changing America by Amy Goodman, with David Goodman and Denis Moynihan.
The Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard honored Goodman with the 2014 I.F. Stone Medal for Journalistic Independence Lifetime Achievement Award....
