Hitting back at the Clinton campaign, Bob Dole accused the president of trying to threaten voters with dire predictions that Dole would cut programs such as Medicare to deliver his tax cuts. He said, “We’ve had millions and millions of dollars already spent saying Bob Dole is against Medicare, Bob Dole is against Social Security, Bob Dole is against veterans, Bob Dole is against children. There’s nobody left.” Dole was speaking to an audience in St. Petersburg, Florida, yesterday. In campaign stop after stop, Dole was telling audiences not to believe TV ads aired by Clinton’s campaign that claim the Republican nominee must slash programs they care about to implement his economic package. Dole promised to deliver his 15% tax cut in income taxes by April 15, saying he would pay for it in part by wielding the line item veto against government spending, also took a swipe at Clinton suggesting recent missile strikes against Iraq did not advance American interests.
