Hi there,

As Democracy Now! turns 29 this month, the need for independent news questioning and challenging those in power is more critical now than ever. Although this is a period of great uncertainty for news organizations like ours, we are unwavering in our commitment to continue to bring you fearless trustworthy reporting on the issues that matter most. If our journalism is important to you, please donate today in honor of our 29th anniversary. Every dollar makes a difference. Thank you so much.

We are joined today by Palestinian-American journalist Daoud Kuttab. He heads the Institute for Modern Media at Al-Quds University based in Ramallah. He’s been active around many issues in Israel and the occupied West Bank, and has reported extensively for the Pacifica Network News. Democracy Now! listeners may remember Daoud Kuttab from several months ago when an international campaign was launched on his behalf after he was arrested by the Palestinian Authority. He was kept in detention for seven days because he was broadcasting the proceedings of the Palestinian legislature which were then sharply critical of Palestine Authority President Yasir Arafat.

Why don’t we start with the situation today and you’re assessment of what is happening?
