Naval officer Pablo Paredes has surrendered to military officials. He was arrested and detained on charges of desertion. Paredes, a Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class, refused to board his crew’s ship two weeks ago in San Diego in order to not to aid the U.S. war effort in Iraq. The 23-year-old native of the Bronx had been in hiding for the past two weeks. On Saturday as he surrendered he spoke to supporters.
