Hi there,

This month, Democracy Now! marks 29 years of fearless independent journalism. Presidents have come, gone and come back again, but Democracy Now! remains, playing the same critical role in our democracy: shining a spotlight on corporate and government abuses of power and raising up the voices of scholars, advocates, scientists, activists, artists and ordinary people working for a more peaceful and just world. If our journalism is important to you, please donate today in honor of our 29th anniversary. Every dollar makes a difference. Thank you so much.

Democrats Accuse Rice Of Lying About Iraq

HeadlineJan 26, 2005

On the floor of the Senate Tuesday, Democratic lawmakers were unusually harsh in their criticism for the Bush administration’s war plans in Iraq and particularly Secretary of State nominee Condoleeza Rice. Senator Robert Byrd said “Dr. Rice is responsible for some of the most overblown rhetoric that the administration used to scare the American people.” Senator Mark Dayton of Minnesota said “I really don’t like being lied to repeatedly, flagrantly, intentionally. It’s wrong; it’s undemocratic; it’s un-American; and it’s very dangerous.”
