In environmental news, Scientists now believe that last year’s Hurricane Ivan generated the tallest and most intense wave ever recorded. The wave reached as high as 90 feet and had the power to snap a ship in half. However it never reached shore. This revelation comes as new reports are emerging on the link between hurricane intensity and global warming. A new study out of MIT has determined that the destructive power of hurricanes in the North Atlantic and North Pacific has nearly doubled over the past 30 years. And scientists are already saying that 2005 is set to be one of the worst years on record for hurricanes in part because of human-induced global warming. Since the start of June there have already been eight named storms in the western Atlantic. Scientists are predicting a total of 21 major storms. Since 1887 only three years have seen more than 19 storms.
