Canada Freezes Aid to Palestinian Authority Over Hamas

Government Canada has become the first foreign government outside of Israel to suspend aid to the Palestinian Authority over the recent election of Hamas. Canada says the aid freeze will continue so long as Hamas refuses to recognize Israel and renounce violence. Several other countries are expected to follow suit. The announcement came as Hamas members formally took control of the Palestinian cabinet Wednesday.
