Quartet Says It Will Resume Aid to Palestinians

HeadlineMay 10, 2006

The Quartet of Middle East peace brokers has reached a temporary agreement to resume aid to the Palestinians that has been frozen under the Hamas-led government. The United Nations, the United States, Russia and the European Union made the announcement Tuesday.

  • UN Secretary General Koffi Annan : “”The quartet undescored its continued commitment to a two state solution as embodied in the road map as well as the need for both parties to avoid actions which could prejudice final status issues. We reteriated a great concern that the Palestinian authority government has so far failed to commit itself to the principles of non violence, recognition of Israel and acceptance of previous agreements and obligations including the road map.”
