Hi there,

Can you donate $10 per month to support Democracy Now!’s independent journalism all year long? Since our very first broadcast in 1996, we’ve refused to take government or corporate funding, because nothing is more important to us than our editorial independence—especially in this unprecedented election year. When Democracy Now! covers war and peace or the climate crisis, we’re not brought to you by the weapons manufacturers or the oil, gas, coal or nuclear companies. Our journalism is powered by YOU. But that means we can’t do our work without your support. Right now, a generous donor will DOUBLE your gift, which means your $10 donation this month will be worth $20 to Democracy Now! Please do your part right now. We’re all in this together. Thank you so much.

Sen. Clinton: Rumsfeld Should Resign

HeadlineAug 04, 2006

Here in the United States, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton has joined the growing chorus of lawmakers and former military officials calling for the resignation of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. Clinton made the announcement Thursday just hours after she questioned Rumsfeld as he testified in front of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

  • Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton: “Under your leadership there have been numerous errors in judgment that have led us to where we are in Iraq and Afghanistan. We have a full fledged insurgency and full blow sectarian conflict in Iraq. Now, whether you label it a civil war or not it is a situation that has created extreme violence and continuing loss among our troops and the Iraqis.”
  • U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld: “I have never painted a rosy picture. I have been very measured in my words and you would have dickens of a time showing where I have been excessively optimistic. Understand this is tough stuff.”
