Cuba Says Castro Improving, May Attend NAM Summit

HeadlineSep 14, 2006

In Cuba, a top government official says President Fidel Castro’s condition is improving and that he may even take part in this week’s meeting of the Nonalligned Movement.

  • National Assembly President Ricardo Alarcon: “He’s doing well, he’s recovering, he’s the chairman of the Cuban delegation and accordingly the chairman of the conference and he may participate in some of the activities of the conference in the manner that he may choose and his doctors may permit.”

Cuba also released new photos of Castro greeting a visitor in his hospital room. A summit appearance would be Castro’s first since he underwent emergency surgery in late July.
