A new poll shows a majority of Americans oppose the key provisions of the Bush administration’s plans to modify laws on government surveillance. According to the American Civil Liberties Union, two-thirds of respondents say the government should be required to obtain an individual warrant before monitoring conversations between U.S. citizens and people abroad. More than half also oppose the administration’s push to immunize major telecom companies that took part in the spying.
