East Timor President in critical condition after assassination attempt

    President Jose Ramos-Horta survived two gunshots to the stomach that he sustained during a morning raid on his home be Timorese rebels. The car of former president and current Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao was also attacked, but Gusmao eluded his attackers.

    Rebel leader Alfredo Reinado was killed in the attack, according to The Age newspaper of Australia.
