Republican Senator John McCain of Arizona is facing criticism for his claim that the fire was started by undocumented immigrants. McCain claimed in a press conference that there was substantial evidence that the fire was caused by people who have crossed the border illegally. But the U.S. Forest Service dismissed McCain’s claim, saying no such evidence exists.
