Romney’s “Binders Full of Women” Remark Goes Viral

HeadlineOct 17, 2012

Among the topics raised by audience members at the presidential debate Tuesday night were a few largely ignored in the first debate, including immigration policy, gun control and the gender pay gap. One particular response from Mitt Romney about recruiting women for cabinet posts in Massachusetts went viral.

Mitt Romney: “We took a concerted effort to go out and find women who had backgrounds that could be qualified to become members of our cabinet. I went to a number of women’s groups and said, 'Can you help us find folks,' and they brought us whole binders full of women.”

The phrase “binders full of women” exploded on social media Tuesday night, at one point receiving more than 40,000 mentions on Twitter in one minute.
