Hi there,

The media can be the greatest force for peace on Earth. Instead, all too often, it’s wielded as a weapon of war. That's why we have to take the media back. Thanks to a group of generous donors, all donations made today will be DOUBLED, which means your $15 gift is worth $30. With your contribution, we can continue to go to where the silence is, to bring you the voices of the silenced majority – those calling for peace in a time of war, demanding action on the climate catastrophe and advocating for racial and economic justice. Every dollar makes a difference. Thank you so much!

Mexico: Indigenous Environmental Leader Isidro Baldenegro López Assassinated

HeadlineJan 18, 2017

And in Mexico, Goldman Environmental Prize winner Isidro Baldenegro López has been assassinated. The indigenous leader has long organized against illegal logging and deforestation in the Sierra Madre Mountains. Decades ago, his father was also murdered after leading mass protests against illegal logging in their family’s ancestral lands. This is Baldenegro López, who won the prestigious Goldman Prize in 2005.

Isidro Baldenegro López: “We know there are people who want to pillage the riches of the Sierra, and they don’t even live here. By fraud and forgery, they manage to get away with it. And we oppose this. They are not going to log the forest.”
