Austin to Become First Southern City with Paid Sick Leave

Austin has become the first city in Texas—and the first in the South—to make paid sick leave a mandatory requirement for non-government employees. Austin’s City Council voted 9-2 early this morning for the measure, which will require employers to provide up to 64 hours of paid sick leave.
