Global coronavirus cases have soared to their highest level of the pandemic, fueled by the explosive spread of the Omicron variant. Case counts are at or near record highs in much of South America, including Peru, Brazil, Chile and Argentina. Much of Europe has broken records for case counts, as well, with France, Germany, Austria and Italy setting new highs for daily infections.
