Russian Court Sentences Journalist Masha Gessen in Absentia to 8 Years in Prison

A Russian court convicted U.S.-Russian journalist Masha Gessen in absentia Monday, sentencing them to eight years in prison for remarks made in 2022 about the invasion of Ukraine. Gessen, who lives in the U.S., was found guilty of spreading “false information” when they spoke in an interview about the massacre of hundreds of people by Russian forces in the eastern Ukrainian city of Bucha.
