In media news, a Russian court has revoked the license of the independent newspaper Novaya Gazeta, which is edited by the Nobel Peace Prize winner Dmitry Muratov. The move effectively bans the newspaper from operating. Muratov spoke out against the ruling on Tuesday.
Dmitry Muratov: “The decision is a political hit job that has no legal basis whatsoever. We were in court for allegedly not handing over some documents 20 years ago, when, in reality, it is absolutely obvious to everyone what’s behind this.”
